We are really excited to provide a best roller skates review and rating of the Moxi Beach Bunny skate below. We talk about comfort, price, aesthetics, ease of use and suitability for beginners. Buying a pair of roller skates can be daunting and especially from a premium brand when they can typically cost over £300. The Moxi Beach Bunny range is at the lower end of the Moxi price scale (at circa £200 per pair) and we consider how these skates compare to the more expensive lines from Moxi as well as other brands.
First Impressions
The Moxi Beach Bunny roller skates come in a variety of colours and they are truly eye popping when you unbox them. Any photograph will not do these skates justice. The skate pictured above is in Periwinkle but they also come in many other colours. The Periwinkle have glittering peach coloured wheels with bunnies printed on them. The colours of the skates, wheels and laces have been beautifully selected to compliment each other. The shape of the skates have the grace of ice skates. The lining of the skates is made from a specially tailored fabric which depicts lovely little images of bunnies, ice creams – anything you can imagine that is fun and cute. This fabric was designed by Estro Jen, the founder of Moxi. The pictures represent elements of her life – for example, she had a pet rabbit.
Moxi Beach Bunny skates are heavy and seem of a very good quality. The trucks are very sturdy. The skates come with toe protectors which can be laced onto the front of the skate. However, the writer believes the skate looks nicer without these.
They were beautifully wrapped in bags and tissue paper. The outer wrapping is a box with more retro type images all over it.
When trying them on, they fit very snuggly.
Our best roller skates review of the Moxi Beach Bunny
The writer has done a significant amount of skating in these Beach Bunny skates. They were the writer’s first pair when returning to skating after so many years. It has to be acknowledged that they did take some wearing in. They can make your feet were quite stiff and sore after the first couple of goes. However, they do soften up after about seven to ten days of skating (for an hour or two per day) and no more discomfort was felt once they had been broken in.
The skates provide a really nice level of balance compared to some other skates and for that reason, they are very good for beginners. The wheel base is further apart than some of Moxi’s other product lines, giving them more stability. The wheels are not very big compared to the Moxi Lolly skates or some of the other brands. The writer is petite and believes this also helped with balance.
Even after skating for a significant amount of time, the skates still look really nice and did not become very ‘scuffed’, although the writer has not yet taken them to the skate park.
Something which is considered to be a real bonus for people living in England or places with adverse weather, is that they are very waterproof and resilient to rain. Some of Moxi’s other skate lines would be ruined in such weather, but these ones can just be wiped clean.
The skates felt relatively smooth and there were no issues using them. The bearings seem to be of good quality – the wheels roll freely and for a sustained length of time when testing the bearings with force from a hand. The bearings seemed of a higher quality than some other brands in the closest price bracket.
The laces need to be double tied as they can be prone to slipping open.
Best roller skates rating Pros and Cons
Pros
- Good for beginner balance
- At £200, the price is more reasonable than some other skates – especially with the Moxi brand
- The colours are eye poppingly beautiful and attract a lot of attention and compliments
- They can be taken to the skate park or used in street skating without modification
- The stiffness of the boot helps with balance and control and provides stability
- The bearings are good on these skates – the wheels roll with little effort
- The wheels do roll over cracks relatively easily
- They are very durable for all weathers
- They are vegan and cruelty free
Cons
- They can be uncomfortable to break in at first
- The price is still significantly more than some other brands offer beginners, although it is noted that the quality of some parts of the skates is compromised, in the writer’s experience, in favour of the financial savings (such as lower quality bearings)
- The wheels are smaller than the Moxi Lolly skates. The writer personally really likes the size of the Moxi Lolly skate wheels (gummy wheels) as they provide a really smooth ride and roll over cracks and bumps more easily.
Best roller skates – the final verdict and rating
As someone who has done a lot of roller skating, the writer loves these skates. They are good quality for beginners and they are recommended. They can be a really good first pair of skates for someone just getting into skating or coming back to it after many years. We would give the skates a best skates rating of 7 out of 10, with 10 being excellent.
