6 Best Roller Skate Wheels for Beginners – 6 beautiful options

In this article i’m going to share with you my 7 best roller skate wheels for beginners. I’m going to consider how smooth they are for use outside, maneoverability, hardness and ultimately how they might be experienced by a first time skater. Let’s get straight into it!

#1 Moxi Gummy Wheels – Roller Skate Wheels for Beginners

The Moxi Gummy Wheels provide for a very smooth ride. This well known brand has been producing these well loved large, bubbly smooth wheels for years and they are very popular. They come as the standard set of wheels on the Moxi Lolly skate (link here to our review of these skates):

The size of these are now 65mm with a wheel hardness of 78A (soft). They are also wide, with a width of 40mm.

These wheels are large and smooth – for new skaters they are very comfortable. They are some of my favorite wheels available. These wheels are great for skating outdoors – not so much so for skating indoors as the softness could make them drag/feel slightly sticky at an indoor rink. They are great for a long skate ride along a beach path or cycle path.

Aesthetically they look just like lolly pops which is adorable!

#2 – Moxi Fundae Wheels

These wheels are more of an ‘all rounder’ wheel. They are smaller and harder than the Moxi Gummy wheels. They are suitable for new skaters who want to try and learn to skate at the skate park, and their hardness would also make them fine for indoor skating. They may be slightly faster than the Gummy wheels or a softer wheel with less friction on the street path. Some skaters may find that the hardness of these wheels, when they are learning, is less stable than some of the softer wheels (which give more grip).

The size of these wheels is 57mm and the width is 34mm. Their hardness is 92A.

Aesthetically, they have beautiful colours and lovely pictures of yummy treats on them – ice cream sundaes.

#3 – Pulse Atom Wheels – Roller Skate Wheels for Beginners

With a softer material and a large bouncy size both in width and diameter, these wheels are great for outdoor skating. They provide a smooth, swift comfortable ride and come in a lovely variety of colours. Wheel size: 65mm x 37mm. Their hardness is 78A. They make a perfect set of roller skate wheels for beginners.

They are slightly less curved than other options but this is designed for long strides and distance.

#4 – Radar Energy Wheels

These wheels are extremely popular and the larger size would be grate for commuting or covering longer distances. The specifications are below:

  • Wheel size: 62mm x 32mm
  • Hardness: 78A
  • Edges: Curved edges for flexibility

These would be great for beginners as they would be big enough to be smooth, but not too clunky! They are not very wide which will make them more agile than some of the slightly more bulky wheels. They are highly rated by many skaters.

#5 – Radar Halo Wheels

These wheels are 59mm by 38mm with a hardness of 86A. They provide a lovely balance for a new skater, between grip, maneuverability and control/balance, making them an ideal choice as a set of roller skate wheels for beginners. They are soft enough to provide a gripped ride, and large enough for this to be smooth. Their size – not too big or wide, is great for a skater who wants to remain agile while learning.

#6 – Luminous wheels

Not only are these skate wheels fun to skate in, as they light up – no batteries required! They are actually great for beginner skaters too – providing a nice balance between hardness (grip) and maneuverability and agility. The wheel hardness is 85A, with a diameter of 62mm. Their width is 34mm for quad skates.

They come in a really wide variety of colours, which is great!
