We love the Moxi brand. In this best roller skates review article we talk about the history of Moxi and provide a comparison of Moxi roller skates including all the different types of skates and boots they produce. We aim to help you decide whether a pair of Moxi roller skates is right for you, and which one.
The history of the Moxi Brand
The Moxi line of skates were designed and created by Estro Jen. It was her intention to create a brand of skates that would resolve some of the frustrations she encountered when skating as a roller derby skater. After some time of experimenting and adjustments, she decided to set up her own brand of skates.
The word Moxi means strength and fortitude. It reflects the style of skaters which the Moxi brand attracts – empowered women who are not afraid to try, fail and try again in order to succeed.
Current Moxi skates on the market – our review
Below pictured are the skates available from the Moxi brand. Pictured left to right, these include the Beach Bunny, the Rainbow Rider, the Jack 1 boot, the Panther, the Lolly and the Jack boot 2. The features of these skates are outlined below. We will start with the complete skate sets:
Comparison of Moxi Roller Skates – The Rainbow Rider
The Rainbow Rider features the following specifications:
- Drum dyed vinyl / vegan friendly

- Wheels: 58mm, 82A hardness
- Base plate: Die-cast aluminium
- Bearings: ABEC-5
- Adjustable toe stops? Yes
- Ideal for: wider feet

The Rainbow Rider is the most affordable Moxi skate on the market. It’s great for beginners on more of a budget. The bearings are just as good as some of the more expensive lines (below). The wheels are smaller making them less smooth over bumps but also great for dancing and the indoor skating rink.

The Beach bunny is another great option for beginner skaters. Improvements/upgrades from the Rainbow Rider include the hardness of the wheels (a slightly softer wheel is included as standard), meaning a smoother ride over bumps and they can be used lightly at the skate park. They keep their shape very well so look eye poppingly beautiful for a long time! With their glitter wheels and careful colour combinations, they are also one of the more aesthetically beautiful options – if head turning is what is desired! The Beach Bunny can be used in all weathers which is great for people living in England!
Comparison of Moxi Roller Skates – The Lolly
The Lolly skate features the following specifications:
- Suede leather boot
- Made in America
- Wheels: 65mm, 78A hardness
- Base plate: Powerdyne nylon thrust
- Bearings: ABEC-5
- Adjustable toe stops? Adjustable powerdyne
- Ideal for: Any foot shape
- Price: circa £350
- Can be used in the skate park? Yes but it is recommend the wheels are changed first

Improvements on the beach bunny include no break in time for this skate at all, and the large comfy wheels which glide over bumps and cracks very smoothly. They can mould to any foot shape which is great for people with wide feet. They can handle light skate park skating like the Beach Bunny, but Moxi suggest the wheels are changed first.
Comparison of Moxi Roller Skates – The Panther
The Panther skate features the following specifications:
- Suede leather boot with additional PVC unit around the ankle
- Made in America
- Wheels: 58mm, 78A hardness
- Base plate: Marvel aluminium
- Bearings: ABEC-5
- Adjustable toe stops? Adjustable powerdyne
- Ideal for: medium width feet
- Price: circa £235
- Can be used in the skate park? Yes – this skate was designed for new skate park users
A variation to the Lolly in one respect is that this skate can be used more heavily at the skate park with the added ankle support. This will require more break in time than the Lolly, however. The wheels are more suited to skate park use, too.
Comparison of Moxi Roller Skates – The Jack 1
The Jack 1 boot features the following specifications:
- Suede leather boot or vegan white with additional PVC support – requires some break in time
- Made in America
- Wheels: Boot sold separately – can be added to any plate/wheel setup
- Base plate: Boot sold separately – can be added to any plate/wheel setup
- Bearings: Boot sold separately – can be added to any plate/wheel setup
- Adjustable toe stops? Boot sold separately – can be added to any plate/wheel setup
- Ideal for: average wideness
- Price: circa £350
- Can be used in the skate park? Yes – this boot is suited for aggressive skating
This boot was designed to provide great support for aggressive skating and tricks at the skate park. It provides a great deal of support for the ankle. It is sold on it’s own so a set of wheels and plates would be required in addition to the boot. These can be custom ordered from Moxi.
Comparison of Moxi Roller Skates – the Jack 2
The Jack 2 boot features the following specifications:
- Suede leather boot or vegan in black or white with additional PVC support – requires circa 20 hours of break in time
- Made in America
- Wheels: Boot sold separately – can be added to any plate/wheel setup
- Base plate: Boot sold separately – can be added to any plate/wheel setup
- Bearings: Boot sold separately – can be added to any plate/wheel setup
- Adjustable toe stops? Boot sold separately – can be added to any plate/wheel setup
- Ideal for: average wideness
- Price: circa £470
- Can be used in the skate park? Yes – this boot specifically made for aggressive skating – it gives more support than the Jack 1
The level of support with these Jack 2 boots is more extensive than the Jack 1. They can be used for very aggressive skating but consequently, will require a longer break in period.
We hope you enjoyed this Moxi skate comparison. We have really enjoyed the Moxi products so far so you can’t really go ‘wrong’ with them. The components are of great quality and they make for a great skating experience.
Happy skating!
