Places to skate

Great places to skate in the UK – Cambridge

This is another one of my favourite places to skate in the UK. There are pathways all around Cambridge which just seem like they were made for skating! Cambridge has got beautiful scenery and great shopping too so you can double up on the trip and get the most out of your time there. I have highlighted below some of the things I love about skating in Cambridge. I hope you enjoy this article.

Places to skate in the UK – Cambridge pathways

I’ve copied below some of the pictures of the pathways which take you around Cambridge. You can see in terms of places to skate it’s great. The pathways run around a lot of the Cambridge colleges and near to the punting activities and canal. It’s really beautiful with lots of greenery and old historic buildings which can make you feel like you are on the film set of Harry Potter!

Another thing I love about visiting Cambridge is that the people are very friendly.

Things to be aware of when skating around Cambridge

This is an ancient City. There are many very old pathways with cobbles on them so some of the pathways are definitely not great in terms of places to skate. You may find more of these near the shopping centre. If you stick to the green grassy areas around the City and stick to the pathways near the canals, you should have a smoother skating experience. Pictured below is a pathway and road, very close to the shopping centre:

Also the traffic coming in and out of Cambridge can be a nightmare so make sure to leave plenty of travel time if you are on a schedule.

One more thing to be wary of is that there are bicycles EVERYWHERE. The students in Cambridge are not permitted to have cars by the University, so they get around the City on bicycles. There are many of them at traffic lights waiting to pull away and its just something to be wary of when you are turning left in the City in case you have one coming up on the inside!

Other things to experience in Cambridge

If you are done with skating there are some other lovely attractions in Cambridge – why not take a punt down the river? There is also a great shopping centre there but be warned about the parking charges – parking there for a day can cost in the region of £20!!

Punting can be booked in advance here:

They have many shops in Cambridge including an under cover centre in case you find it’s raining on the day you visit. There are two which are under cover – the main one is the Grande Arcade. This shopping centre’s parking charges are particularly expensive. The other one is called The Grafton Centre. This is a little further away from any main attractions.

The opening hours of the Grande Arcade are as follows:
