I recently visited Curve Motion in Bury St Edmunds, with my son. Overall we had a great experience there and I wanted to write and tell you about it.

What is Curve Motion, Bury St Edmunds?
Curve Motion is a roller skating rink in Bury St Edmunds. It has different types of sessions open to the public. We attended on a Saturday. The skating rink is not enormous but it was big enough and they have an onsite restaurant, and soft play area. You can book a few hours of just skating, just soft play, or a mixture of both. It can be slightly expensive so be warned! We paid over £30 for skate and play and skate hire. Food was not cheap either!
What did we think of Curve Motion, Bury St Edumunds?
We had a really enjoyable experience there. There were many children skaters and many of them were beginners. There is a rail for them to hold onto around the edge of the rink. There are also very helpful attendants there, who were helping my son to learn to skate which was amazing! As his mother, I find he is more willing to listen if someone else tells him how to do something or what is what! So having that third party interaction with him was really so helpful and i’ll be forever grateful to the man who helped us. That’s not strictly their job but he offered help anyway.
You are not allowed to take bags onto the skate rink floor so I just wanted to give a heads up about this. You can hire a locker which are £7 to hire, and you get £5 back as a deposit. I had a rucksack on and he asked me to remove it! So I had to hobble back to the locker area with my son who was just learning, to put my little rucksack away.
There are disco type lights in there and music as you would expect from any skating rink. My light up wheels were very glowy in there and I personally really enjoyed it, and my son did too. It was really nice to be skating somewhere smooth and bump free for a change. (The pavements in England can be a bit bumpy especially for beginner skaters).
Curve Motion food
The food was ‘ok’ there, but it was pricey. We paid about £30 for one jacket potato meal, an ice cream, a packet of sweets, two doughnuts, two apple juices and a cup of tea! My son had eaten lunch before we got there and I was starving from rushing to feed him and get him there, hence the jacket potato – but I did get him some snacks like the doughnut and sweets. I was shocked that despite not ordering two meals, I still spent close to £30 on food for a mother and child. I can see i’m not the only one who shares the view that it is expensive food – people on trip advisor and other sites, say the same. You are not allowed to bring food into the premises.
Does Curve Motion, Bury St Edmunds, offer lessons?
Yes it does! You can go to the company’s website and book them directly. Here is a link for you:
It costs £90 to book and my understanding is that this is for a set. It’s not entirely clear from the website an currently they are booked so I cannot go through to check. I may provide an update on this at a later stage, if I end up buying my son some lessons there.
Overall verdict – Curve Motion
Overall, this was a great skating experience. The staff skating around were extremely helpful. You must be prepared for the prices before you go – even for a small family you will probably end up racking up a bit of a spend. I would definitely go again and currently I’m keeping an eye on the skating lessons so that I can take my son to learn and we can then enjoy more skating together!
