What to do in Long Beach – a little history/info first!
Long Beach is a City on the coast in beautiful Southern California. There is a famous bay there with the RMS Queen Mary moored up – a retired ocean ship and museum. There is an aquarium on the waterfront boasting touch tanks and a shark lagoon. It also houses the Museum of Latin American Art.
Another interesting fact about Long Beach is that it contains the Long Beach Oil Field, which made Long Beach a major oil producer. In the 1920s the Long Beach Oil Field was the most productive oil field in the world.
Hollywood star Cameron Diaz is also from Long Beach as well as Snoop Dogg.
The City is known for its waterfront attractions – it hosts the Grand Prix of Long Beach, the Californian State University – one of the largest universities in California.
Parts of Long Beach had previously been occupied and controlled by the Spanish and Mexican people and there were wars, including the Mexican-American war which changed this.
In terms of all of this history, you will not be short of ideas on what to do in Long Beach.
How to get around in Long Beach
The best way to get around Long Beach, California, is on roller skates…we would say that, I know 🙂 but I do genuinely mean it! Long Beach is very famous for roller skating. The famous roller rink ‘Pigeon’s Roller Rink’ is based there, as well as her shop. It was famously the home of the Moxi brand entrepreneur, Estro Jen (Michelle Steilen) when she created the Moxi brand. There is a new dedicated outdoor rink at Junipero Beach, and a very beautiful scenic, flat, beach path. Long Beach boasts multiple skate parks and it’s beautiful for night and sunset skating, as demonstrated by one of my favourite skaters, Coco Franklin:
There is another video here which I like, by Skating Squid, which shows you how smooth and nice the path is for skating along the beach:
Finally, here is one by Estro Jen skating her way to the Lighthouse which I love! I get major fomo when I watch these videos and i’m not there with my roller skates!
Here is one prepared by Shove, one of the Moxi girls, showing you what night skating is like, in Long Beach, California. It really shows how beautiful it is at night time. You can see that the question ‘what to do in Long Beach’ can also be answered with many lovely night time sites and eating opportunities!
Here is one about the Moxi girls which shows you some shots from Long Beach, where they used to hang out together:
As you can see, Long Beach, California is absolutely amazing for roller skaters and my suggestion would be that you travel around the beautiful sites to see, on your skates!
