Roller Skating London – What are the Options?

In London there are a great many places to skate – and most of them are free! Here’s is a few ideas for you:

  • Hyde Park – with it’s beautiful scenic, smooth pathways;
  • Around the City seeing the amazing sky srapers as you go. Why not stop off in some of my favourite sky scraper bars for a drink and snack and seeing the sights from up high;
  • Roller rinks – there are lovely roller discos in London and they are very popular;
  • Along the Thames River;
  • The outdoor skate parks – there are many great options.

Let’s look at these places to skate in more detail!

Roller Skating London – Hyde Park

Hyde Park is a famous London site which should not be missed by tourists. Why not take it in on skates? There are long, smooth pathways going around the park and they lead to exits out of the park at different places in London. The Park is very large at 350 acres! It is 1.5 miles long and 1 mile wide. I’m showing you below, a link to the park map which is published on the Royal Parks website:

The nearest Tube Stations are Hyde Park Corne and Lancaster Gate.

Here are some pictures of the types of lovely paths you will be able to skate on, at the park:

The pathways are mostly flat so very good for beginner skaters and you will see some skating lessons taking place there either in groups or privately.

There are many great food and drink places near to Hyde Park – the choice is endless! You will find lots of options near to the entrances and exits.

Roller Skating London – Sky scraper sight seeing!

If you wish to see some famous landmarks and sky scrapers while skating in London, I recommend you travel via train to London Liverpool Street station. The area surrounding London Liverpool Street is full of famous sky scrapers and buildings and the pavements are long and smooth! For example, you will see the Gherkin, not too far from the station:

You could also skate to the Shard:

You can also skate to London Bridge which would be about a mile I believe from the London Liverpool Street station, or you can go to the famous Tower Bridge. Contrary to what some tourists or unfamiliar visitors believe, the Tower Bridge is the one with the blue opening and closing parts (for the boats below). So named because you will find it next to the Tower of London – another famous landmark which you could visit as you are skating around for the day – seeing what it’s famous for – Ravens, Beefeaters and the Crown Jewels, while you are there!

I also mentioned my favourite bar near this area (very close to Liverpool Street). This is called Sushisamba, on Bishopsgate, address: 110 Bishopsgate. The food and drinks are amazing and it has a giant jewelled tree on the rooftop garden which you can see at this link:

Skating along the Thames River

The River Thames is beautiful to skate along. Be advised however that not all areas are accessible/ easy to get down to with skates. Some of them have steps you may need to descend to access continued flow of skating path! I especially love the stretch of the river near Waterloo Bridge and this leads to an amazing outdoor skatepark there too:

If you skate along waterloo at night you will see the lovely London Eye lit up and the Oxo Tower – another amazing place to have dinner!!

The address of the Waterloo Skate park, which is also next to the Tate Modern gallery (why not pop in to see the art work?) – is

Southbank Undercroft Skate Space, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Rd, London, SE1 8XX

You also have the famous roller disco in London, Roller Nation, which is located at 117 Bruce Grove, London N17 6UR.
